Purple Poodle

I nearly died when I saw this person walking her poodle in the fan yesterday. She walked in front of my car, against the light, and I nearly creamed her. I was so intrigued that I drove around the block, pulled over and took a picture with my iphone just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.

One of the things I love about living around here is that people do not fear personal expression. People wear funky clothes, sport tatoos, ride on tricked out bicycles, paint their houses fun colors - there are no architectural or design police.

I think I have to draw the line with dyeing your dog's hair. Why doesn't she dye her hair purple??

Am I overreacting???

  1. The thing about dyeing dog's hair is that is it toxic and actually illegal in some places. Some folks use vegetable dye but I am certain this jaywalker did not. You know I am a huge animal advocate so I can say this... WTF?

  2. What a horrible thing to do to that poor dog.

  3. Oh whatever, she's fine. I see her around all the time, silly to assume things about her.

  4. The purple poodle is cool, and I would have SOOO gone around the block to get another look, too. My middle daughter dyes her hair weird colors ... it was pink, but it's green now. She uses Manic Panic non-toxic dyes that would be perfectly safe to use on pets.

There was a standard poodle at the Dog Fair in Fredericksburg in October that the owner dyed rasta-colors with Bob Marley on one side and a hat with dreadlocks. It was the hit of the fair! I cannot imagine how long it took to do that.

  5. Just an FYI...Manic Panic hair dye should not be ingested. Dogs tend to lick the oddest places. Personally, I would not risk my dog's well being.

  6. Dyeing your poodle in purple looks odd but is cool.

  7. I've seen her around town. The dog is all sorts of shades. It's a bit unusual. The lady who bred Vivian is one of those dog groomers who do elaborate, odd ball hairdos that make dogs look like camels, elephants, and Bob Marley.

I hear you ran into my other half the other day! Looking forward to the time I get to met you!

  9. My dogs would disown me and never leave the house again if I did that to them! Glad you got the photo though and shared.

  11. I'm with Divine Theatre, it's completely unnecessary and you wonder why she walks it all around the VCU area- for attention. she's an attention whore and obviously doesn't give a crap about dogs if she's breeding AND put purple toxic stuff all over its fur for her own egotrip.

  13. After manic panic has been rinsed off theres no more chemicals that can be ingested. Also most people use koolaid. Its non-toxic and dogs love it.

do your research before you start making people sound like the worst people alive.

  14. What you're saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I'm sure you'll reach so many people with what you've got to say.
